I brought her inside, cared for her, and watched — week after week — as her feathers slowly grew back. And then one morning, she spread her wings and flew. Far away, and free. She left me behind. But her soul stayed. The feeling of that moment — of watching freedom return to something that had lost it — never left me. I had never thought of myself as an artist. Not once. But in that moment of outstretched wings, something opened in me that I had no words for. Only colour. A soft, luminous blue on a large canvas — the only language that came close to what I had witnessed. My body knew what to do before my mind did. I let go of control. I followed something deeper..."

Helen is also the creator of the Winterbird Fine Art Series. Original works created with celadon eggshells and 24-carat gold leaf. One winter, a dove came to her garden, injured and grounded. Helen cared for her until her wings healed. That dove became the soul of a body of work that speaks to every soul learning, slowly and beautifully, to fly again. Each piece measures 80 × 80 cm.
